BELLY DANCE CLASSES
at The Studio with Lorena Robertson
What should I wear/bring to class?
Level 1: The same thing you would wear to any dance, exercise or yoga class. Something comfortable that doesn’t restrict movement. Tank tops and leggings are good. No sneakers please. Lyrical sandals, ballet slippers, jazz shoes or just socks (preferably the ones with non-skid soles) are fine. If you have a chain belt or fringed shawl to tie around your hips, bring it along. Be prepared to sweat!
Level 2,3 & 4: Veils and finger cymbals are also required.
What will I learn?
Level I
Introduction to belly dancing. The basics: proper posture and exercises to build strength, stamina and flexibility. Learn basic steps and how to put them together with a short choreography.
Level II
Introduction to veils and finger cymbals. Builds on the basics, adding more difficult steps, variations and simple combinations. Introduces layering of steps. A simple choreography is also taught.
Level III (intermediate)
Layering, Variations, Rhythms, Transitions, Technique and dancing while playing finger cymbals. A more in depth study for students who have mastered the basics. A more complex choreography is taught. Serious students should repeat level III two to three times. Material covered in class changes from session to session and different choreographies are taught.
Level IV (advanced)
Choreography and Technique. For those that have mastered level III. Learn to create your own choreography. Input from students is expected. A challenging choreography is taught.
